Be careful of what you’re flushing: disposable wipes back things up


On June 10, 2021, a ball of disposable wipes was removed from a Village of Prairie du Sac sewer main that had caused raw sewer to back up into a nearby residence.

Disposable wipes have been causing problems in communities around the country and the Village of Prairie du Sac is no different. Wipes used for changing diapers, personal hygiene, housecleaning, and more cause major problems when flushed down toilets. Though many of these products are labeled “flushable” or “septic safe,” they are anything but.
