SP Optimists hear from Library Director

Lisa Reiners Thomas, the George Culver Community Library Director, was the invited speaker at the Sauk Prairie Optimist Meeting on April 20. Thomas started at the library in December, grew up in Denmark, WI, attended UW-Madison, and was the Spring Green library director prior to coming to Sauk City. Taking the group on a virtual tour of the library, she stressed the attention to history that the planners used in the design of the renovated space including the crane hanging from the ceiling from one a train track ran through the building to unload monuments for the former Spellman Monument Company. The tour included views of the newspaper, magazine, DVD seduction as well as the digital resources area. The digital resources include Libby and Hoopla, Ancestry.com, and Kanopy. Next were the six “study rooms” with four that can hold two-three people and two “mini-conference” rooms which are not 100 percent soundproof but normal conversation cannot be heard. On the second floor, accessible by elevator, is the Teen Loft which houses Young Adult fiction and the 3-D printer. The Community Room complete with a kitchenette is available for reservations. There is also a History room with digital microfilm, all the books written by August Derleth and more. Of course, there is an extensive children’s section. The Summer Library program this summer is entitled “Oceans of Possibilities.” The SP Optimist Club donates to this program. You can check out items from an Instapot and fishing poles to a tag-a-long bike. There is also a Little Free Food Pantry available. You can bring in donations or take food. To find out more about the library and upcoming events go to www.saukcitylibrary.org. Thomas invites all to visit the library and to check them out!
