Kylee Doherty wins first place in Optimist essay contest


Kylee Doherty is the winner of the Wisconsin Heights Optimists Club annual essay contest. In addition, her essay won a $2500 college scholarship from the Southern Wisconsin District of Optimists International competition, where she finished in first place. The larger competition is between entries from 55 Optimist Clubs in Southern Wisconsin. The daughter of Mike and Lora Doherty, she is a senior at Wisconsin Heights School, and lives in rural Cross Plains. She plans to attend the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa, pursuing a degree in criminal justice and participate in track and volleyball. Runners up in the Wisconsin Heights Optimists contest were 2nd place, Natalie Bartel, daughter of Shannon and Andy Bartel; and 3rd place, Mars Henne, daughter of Daniel Henne. The contest subject was, “How does an optimistic mindset change my tomorrow?”. Barbara Blattner is the Wisconsin Heights Optimist Club essay contest chair.
