An old fire truck in Black Earth...

The Black Earth Historical Society Museum at the Depot is open to the public for the last time this weekend, on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. As always, there is no admission fee. This Sunday features 1933 fire truck, pictured above. The Black Earth Fire Department will display their 1933 model fire engine at the Black Earth Historical Society’s Museum at the Depot on Sunday, Sept. 25. The Fire Department is featured with many other items inside the depot. This photo was from the August 3, 1978 issue of the News-Sickle-Arrow. This year there are new displays featuring some history of the Black Earth Fire Department (the largest item in the display is 145 years old and has been in at least four firehalls here in town). Also featured is Clarence Obright, the village’s longtime Police Chief and public works employee and Cliff Mickelson with his lifelong career with service stations in Black Earth. There will be plenty of new photos and items (some very surprising ones) that you have never seen. If you have not visited the museum in a couple of years, you will find that most displays have been replaced or added to. For some more information on the Black Earth Historical Society celebrating its 30th anniversary, as well as some photos, see page 2.
