Local food drive at all area libraries

Over 150,000 children in Wisconsin alone deal with some sort of food insecurity. Food insecurity, or the condition of not having enough food to meet one’s basic needs, is a problem across the state, with certain groups and places taking the hardest hits. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a rise in food insecurity among all types of households. With a rise in unemployment and food prices, many families were not able to keep up. Although SNAP and other federal programs offer assistance to many families to avoid hunger, some people don’t qualify for these programs or don’t know where to find these resources. These people rely on local food pantries and food banks for their basic needs. In order to keep these pantries stocked and our community healthy, it takes lots of people and donations. There will be a food drive from May 1-15 at the Black Earth Public Library, the Mazomanie Free Library, the George Culver Community Library (Sauk City), and the Ruth Culver Community Library (Prairie Du Sac). Donations can be any non-perishable item, but lists of specific needs can be found at the sites along with information on where to find help if you or your family is struggling with food insecurity.
