Gary Ballweg elected Commander of Black Earth American Legion

The Black Earth Mickelsons-Martin American Legion Post 313 held elections on Memorial Day and announced new officers.  Post Adjutant Gary Ballweg was elected Commander. A 34-year member of the American Legion, Ballweg served in the Air Force for four years and in the Michigan Army National Guard for five years along with a career in Law Enforcement that lasted 42 years. Ballweg resides in Black Earth with his wife Debbie. The Post elected Vice President Travis Pauley to be the next Adjutant; First Vice Commander John Heintz to be Vice Commander; Second Vice Commander Joe Bomkamp to be First Vice Commander; Thomas “Jim” Connors as 2nd Vice Commander; David Cooper, Finance Officer; Dave Barsness as Service Officer; Dennis Wood as Historian; Kenneth Meigs as Judge Advocate; Dick Handel, Sergeant at Arms; Tom Bennett, Chaplain; Bill Rettenmund, Asst. Chaplain; Nick Roberson, Second Sergeant at Arms. The post meets the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m., with a 5:30 p.m. meal, at the Legion Hall at 1116 Mills Street—rear parking and entry available.
