Marvin Peter Breunig

Roxbury--Marvin Peter Breunig, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Roxbury, Wisconsin on Monday, June 10, 2024. He was born November 6, 1941 to the late Gerald and Agnes (Theisen) Breunig in Baraboo, Wisconsin. He grew up in Roxbury, graduating from Sauk City High School in 1960. Marvin joined the Army in 1959, where he served as a cook and reservist until 1967. In 1962 he met the love of his life, Harriett Breunig. They married at St. Norbert Church, Roxbury on September 7, 1964. They celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage and together they raised 10 children.
Marvin worked for Coca-Cola in Madison for 39 years. After retirement, he drove the cat school bus for the Sauk Prairie School District and was known as “Grandpa Marv” to countless kids.
Marvin was very involved in his parish in a variety of ways throughout the years: custodian, cemetery superintendent, Parish Council member, lead money counter, and a former commentator for St. Norbert Church. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3099. Additionally, Marvin was the Treasurer of the Town of Roxbury, and a seasonal employee for Quartz.
When Marvin wasn’t working, he enjoyed sports and spending time with family. He was a fastpitch softball pitcher until the age of 70, spanning 7 decades. During that time he was lucky enough to play with all his sons and a grandson.
Marvin enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, gardening, canning, fishing, the annual Boot Lake family trips, and watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting events, plays and musicals.
He is survived by his wife Harriett; his children: Juanita (Ron) Wipperfurth, Stan (Steph), Roxanne (Roger) Loger, Angela (Todd) Schaaf, Eloise (Matt Dedrick), Nanette (Jamie) Backeberg, Jessica (Randy Hohenstein) Davis, Preston (Jenn), Sylvian (Jennifer), and Justin (Jamie); grandchildren: Jason (Nicole) Wipperfurth, David (Cara) Wipperfurth, Ashley Wipperfurth, Joe (Araina) Breunig, Maxwell Breunig, Samuel Breunig, Benjamin Breunig, Jared Schaaf (Emily Thomas), Bryant Schaaf, Trent Backeberg, Sierra (Jackson Mellum) Davis, Chance Davis, Gage Davis, Savannah Breunig, Dalton Breunig, Mason Breunig and Chloe Breunig; great-grandchildren: Avery Wipperfurth, Brock Wipperfurth, Miles Wipperfurth, Ayda Wipperfurth, and Adrianna Heine; in-laws: Eunice Yanke, Barb Breunig, Medora Breunig, Audrey Breunig, Janie Burkholder, Wallace and Helen Breunig, and Karen Ballweg, and numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother George, in-laws; Sylvian and Lillian Breunig, Ken Yanke, Merten and Bernice Breunig, Ted and Audrey Zander, Miles Breunig, Ivan Breunig, Linus Zander, Walter Burkholder and Tom Ballweg.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 14, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Norbert Church in Roxbury; interment with Military Honors accorded by the Lachmund Cramer VFW post followed in the St. Norbert Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the Dorf Haus in Roxbury.
