Letters to the Editor
My letter to the editor:
I always enjoy reading the “Geiger Counter” articles. Thank you to Matt Geiger for the most recent one published in the August 22 issue of the Star News. Not being a big fan of air travel myself, I really enjoyed reading about his misadventures! I’m thinking there was a bit of exaggeration involved, but regardless, he had me laughing out loud. Thanks for the entertainment, Matt!

Our August 13th ballot had two Referendum Questions that we managed to squelch. They were widely described as a ‘last ditch effort’ of the long-time Republican majority to grab more financial power, before the November 5th election. By then, new district lines, almost everyone agrees, will bring some degree of fairness back to Wisconsin elections.
However, the phrase “last ditch” was wishful thinking. There is to be yet another attempt, by the same people as before, to trick voters into agreeing to yet another Constitutional Amendment. Again, they are trying sneaky tactics to get a change that they know could not pass if openly discussed.
This time it is minor-sounding rewording that will, in fact, limit our voting rights. The League of Women Voters has already issued an alert, so we can start telling our neighbors to, once again, “VOTE NO” in Nov. We have time to make sure everybody knows what to do. Maybe after this next election, the lop-sided legislature will have regained enough balance and dignity to refrain from such scuzzy trickery.
