Sauk Prairie Middle and High School go into secure hold, juvenile arrested outside with pellet gun
Sauk Prairie High School and Middle School went into a secure hold and local police were called after “a student reported that he saw a person outside near the high school campus who showed him a weapon or fake weapon,” on Thursday, September 19th, according to a communication sent out later that day by District officials and a police press release. The high school entered a Secure Hold at 1:10 p.m. and the middle school entered a secure hold at 1:12 pm. Police were called as well.
The police officers were “alerted by the […] School District of a juvenile male outside of the Sauk Prairie High School who displayed a firearm during a disturbance with other juveniles.” The release continues, “At 1:16 p.m. the juvenile male was located by officers from the Sauk Prairie Police Department off School District property and was cooperative with officers. During the contact a Co2 Pellet gun was recovered from the juvenile.” The School District communication continued, “At 1:19 [p.m.] we were informed by law enforcement that we could exit the secure hold.”
“We thank all of our partners for their quick response and their efforts to keep us safe every day,” said the School District. “Also, as we have taught our students, the best way to prevent bad things from happening is to say something when you see something. Today a student did that and we want to express our gratitude for that choice.”
The Police Department “will be referring charges on the juvenile male of making terroristic threats, possession of a facsimile firearm, and disorderly conduct. The suspect was placed in a secure juvenile detention facility.”
During the event no one was injured, and no shots were fired. The case remains under investigation.
The press release ended with “We thank the Sauk Prairie School District Staff for their quick notification and partnership with our officers, which allowed the situation to be resolved quickly.”
