River Valley Cub Scouts hold Pinewood Derby, collect food

River Valley’s Pack 38 would like to share that we recently held our annual Pinewood Derby, on March 1st.   It was a spirited competition, with 9 cars racing for First Place! Each of the Scouts worked with their family to shape a car out of a block of wood. They learned how to use tools, sandpaper, and paint to give it its own unique style.   We had a 50-foot track set up at Christ Lutheran Church, our Charter Organization, and the Scouts arrived to get their cars checked in, and making last minute tweaks to improve their speed. The air was buzzing with excitement as the Scouts handed their cars over to the race moderator.  The timing systems came online “almost” flawlessly, and the room gave a raucous  “3...2...1...GO!”  to set the Race into motion! The cars fought for rank as they were put through their paces on the track.  We raced ‘Round Robin’ style, ensuring every car got to race on every lane, and face each other. Once the dust settled, we enjoyed a hearty porkchop dinner while the results were tabulated.   3rd Place:   James with Dodger 2nd Place: Jesse with Purple People Eater 1st Place: Jackson with 7-11 The rest of our worthy contestants were:  Liam with Blue Lightning , Eamon with Green Machine,  Noah with Blue Ocean, Henry with Racecar, Naomi with Zebra, and Rosie with Pink Princess. We are proud of all of our scouts, and the effort that they put into this.  We really had fun racing together! Pictured, left to right: Jackson, Liam, Eamon, Noah, Henry, Naomi, Rosie, James.
