Sunday in Richland County, 10-year-old Madelyn Slaney shot a 27-point buck, only the fourth shot she’d ever taken. Hunting with her dad Jeremy during Wisconsin’s Youth Hunt, Madelyn took the buck in a 70-yard shot with a 243 rifle.

There were five known banks in Mazomanie during the early days. There were probably more in the very early days. Only the Peoples State Bank has survived today. The early bank shared a building with the US Post Office located at 1 Brodhead Street on the corner with East Hudson Street in downtown Mazomanie. The building was built in 1877. 

Early railroad steam engines needed to fill up with water every 20 to 30 miles so a water tank was needed in the railroad town of Mazomanie. A water tank and pump house were built in 1856 east of the tail race, at the track near the mill. This location was off the northeast corner of the flour mill.

The Free Congregation of Sauk County, a Unitarian Universalist fellowship, will celebrate their annual Founders Day, Stiftungsfest, on October 17 beginning at 10:10 a.m. at Park Hall (aka Free Thinkers Hall), 307 Polk St., Sauk City.

A Sauk Prairie Community Read is planned for the book, “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You” by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi, which will be followed by community conversations. 

Cycling Without Age (CWA) is coming to Cross Plains! This program will bring the joy of cycling to the elders of Cross Plains through a global movement.

The Friends of the Black Earth Public Library are holding a silent auction of donated arts and crafts as a fundraiser. Donated items will be on display at the library for bids from Nov. 19 – Dec. 10.
