Prairie du Sac High School Class of ‘61 celebrates reunion


The Prairie du Sac High School Class of 1961 met for their 60th Class Reunion on September 12, 2021 at the Lake Wisconsin Country Club. There were 27 Classmates in attendance plus spouses. Everyone enjoyed the nice meal and there was lots of reminiscing. Tribute was made to the 24 classmates who have passed away. A highlight was the LP records that were made into placemats emphasizing the class colors of green and silver. Former VFW president given award for service


Pictured above, on September 18, Kevin Krohn, the present Post Commander of the Sauk Prairie Veterans of Foreign Wars Lachmund-Cramer Post 7694, presents a Past Post Commander Certificate of Appreciation to member Roy Gag. The Navy veteran was the Post Commander in 1964, 57 years ago. Mr. Gag remains an active member. In the photographs in the background: on the left is a picture of Navy Ensign Edward Lachmund and to the right, Army Private James Cramer, the namesakes of Post 7694, and the First World War II veterans of Sauk City and Prairie du Sac respectively, to lose their lives in combat.

Mazomanie Class of ‘61 celebrates reunion


15 of 31 classmates from the Mazomanie class of 1961 recently celebrated 60 years since graduation, meeting at the Vines in Sauk City for an afternoon of reminiscing. Coyle family visits parks and earns treasure


Kids in the Black Earth area were recently encouraged to get out and visit parks and conservancies in the area by filling out a Driftless Explorer Passport to earn “treasure.” These passports were a partnership project between the Black Earth Library and the Gateway to The Driftless organization. Pictured here is the Coyle family turning in their passports to receive their certificates and treasure.

At the George Culver Community Library, Miss Becky met the kids and their caregivers at the Riverfront Park in Sauk City for Storytime. They listened to music, made their own and had a parade around the park.

Green Beret shares experiences in Afghanistan


On September 1, Green Beret James Bell, left, Optimist guest speaker and Optimist President Bart Mauch.

On September 1, James Bell shared his experiences serving in Afghanistan and Iraq as Sergeant First Class.  Raised in Middleton, WI, he attended Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. 

Local resident and journalist pens new cookbook with focus on local sources

Announcing the release of her new 2021 cookbook, Home Cooking Comeback: Neighborly Advice & 40 Pleasing Recipes From the Farm Kitchen of a Midwestern Food Journalist, local resident Jennifer Rude Klett hopes to better acquaint home cooks with Wisconsin foods and extend the trend of cooking and baking at home. 

Ruth Culver Friends pull off great golf outing


The Friends of the Ruth Culver Community Library 12th Annual Golf Outing, Silent Auction and Dinner held on September 8 was a great success, thanks to the many generous sponsors, donors, volunteers, all the golfers, and perfect weather. The Friends Board would also like to thank the staff at Lake Wisconsin Country Club for their outstanding service and donations. The success of the event was made possible by many committee members and volunteers. The financial success of the golf outing allows the Friends to continue to support the Ruth Culver Community Library with donations for needed equipment, materials, and programs. The twelve golf outings have provided over $110,000 in support to the library. Lions welcome puppy trainer for the blind


The August 18, 2021 meeting of the Sauk Prairie Lions Club welcomed guest Deb Delie of Green Bay and special guest Snickers to their monthly meeting. Delie is a volunteer puppy raiser and trainer for Leader Dogs For The Blind. Leader Dogs was founded in 1939 by three Lions Club members to help their friend who was blinded in war. There are trainers all across the United States that work with these puppies for four to eight months to help the visually impaired live a more independent life. All services are provided free of charged and is funded by Lions Clubs, private and corporate donations. The trainers are all volunteers who provide the food and supplies for the dogs they train. There is no cost to the clients who receive the dogs and Leader Dog provides two weeks of training and a life time of support. For more information, go to leaderdog.org or call 888-777-5332. The motto of the Lions is “We Serve,” and the Lions do just that. Through several fund raising events, they donate back 100% to the community including eye exams, glasses and hearing aids to those in need, the food pantry, Good Neighbor Clinic, Neighbor In Need, Kids Ranch, Caring Tree, Fire on the River, Hope House, Sauk Prairie School Scholarships, Lions Camp for the Disable, Diabetes Awareness, to name a few. The Sauk Prairie Lions hold their monthly meetings every third Wednesday of the month at the The Prairie House in Prairie du Sac. All are welcome to come, meet some new people, have a good time and help your community. St. John’s fills 232 backpacks for the underprivileged


St. John’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac has completed its annual backpack project by filling 232 backpacks. Each backpack contains 4 spiral notebooks, 1 box of crayons, a pencil sharpener, scissors, ruler, eraser, 5 pens and 5 pencils. These backpacks are sent to Lutheran World Relief where they are distributed to those children who cannot afford backpacks and school supplies. Pictured above are those who helped this year: Jeff Nimmow, Ruth Dressser, Linda Hines, Pastor Fred Rilling, Ginny Nimmow, Maren Boerger Andersen, Barb Salveson and Marilyn Herschleb. Others who helped but not pictured were Dale Haroldson, Bev and Roger Clason.
