RMF featuring Evan Riley Band

The Rural Musicians Forum (RMF) concert on Monday, August 9, at 7:30 p.m. will now feature the Evan Riley Band instead of The Mosaic Chamber Players due to a scheduling conflict. The Evan Riley Band is an acoustic rock band with a fresh and delightfully unexpected blend of folk and rock styles, appealing to audiences of all ages. Their mix of acoustic and electric guitars, strings, trumpet, accordion, eclectic percussion and rich vocal harmonies is a rarely-heard musical palette. In addition to performing original songs, the band covers many popular tunes from the 70’s to today. Hailing from upstate New York, band leader Evan Riley (guitar, vocals) draws upon influences of Eddie Vedder, Glen Hansard, and Martin Sexton.  Evan’s skillful guitar playing and well-crafted song writing result in vibrant music that speaks to the soul. Lassoing in their training in classical and jazz styles, artists Jamie Sercombe (trumpet, accordion, vocals, keyboards), Michael Mood (bass, vocals, keyboards), Todd Thompson (drums, cajon, percussion), and Marie Pauls (violin, vocals) complete this ensemble of seasoned performers.  The concert will be held at the Mazomanie Performing Arts Pavilion in downtown Mazomanie. Concertgoers should bring their own chairs and refreshments.  No tickets are needed - a free will offering will be taken. The Mosaic Chamber Players, originally scheduled for August 9, will be rescheduled in the 2022 season.  RMF, formed more than 30 years in River Valley, will present a final August concert on Monday, August 16, featuring the Twa Dogs, playing Celtic folk music.  The final concert of the season will be held in September in the Town of Wyoming as well.  More information at ruralmusiciansforum.org.

Lions Golf Tournament a success

July 11 was the date of the Sauk Prairie Lions Clubs’ 16th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament, “We Remember Our Own” as a fundraiser and in memory of members who left too soon. Each year has seen more community support and was their best year ever with more golfers, more attending the dinner and more support from local businesses. Men and women of all skill levels competed in a four-person, scramble-format tournament. Several holes had extra, fun activities to try. There were many prizes, raffle items, and silent auction items thanks to so many businesses and individuals that gave so generously. With the money raised, the Lions will give back to Sauk Prairie. The Lions extend a big thank you to all who participated in this event and to the generous donors and sponsors. It is with their contributions that year after year it is a great success. Locally, the Lions support several projects and dozen or more local organizations. The Lions Club provides eyeglasses to school children and screening for vision concerns. Diabetes Awareness, support the food pantry so families may be nourished and provide support to our high school students education in the form of scholarships. The Sauk Prairie Lions help 6:8, Caring Tree, Kids Ranch, and Neighbor in Need and this year also Friends od Sauk Prairie Parks and Recreation, among many other community needs and support. The Sauk Prairie Lions help support Lions programs state wide such as Camp Rosholt which supports many disadvantaged and handicapped children. For one week these children can forget about the pain and suffering they must endure each day and actually feel special and have the time of their lives. Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin is dedicated to restoring sight through the recovery and transplantation of corneal tissue. Leader Dogs for the Blind empowers people who are blind, visually impaired or Deaf-Blind with skills for a lifetime of independence. Sauk Prairie Lions are committed to helping others and live their motto “We Serve”. This year is the Lions International Organization’s 104st year anniversary. For 104 years, Lions have served their communities with dedication and contributed to the development and well-being of millions of people locally, statewide and around the world. You can check out the Sauk Prairie Lions Club every third Wed of the month at the Prairie House in Prairie du Sac. 6:00 p.m. for dinner and meeting. All are welcome! If you want more information or have questions, please call Nancy Passehl at 608- 643-3008. Pictured, Golfers trying their skill at one of the games

Girls’ Weekend, by Wisconsin Heights Players, is back

Girls’ Weekend is back by popular demand! So in case you missed this hilarious play the first time, or you just want to come back for more laughs, or “more wine anyone?”, Wisconsin Heights Players adult theater group is bringing it back to the stage! Performances will once again be at the Mazomanie Community Building, 9 Brodhead Street. Showtimes will be August 6 at 7p.m. and August 8 at 4 p.m. Girls’ Weekend, written by Karen Schaeffer, takes audiences to Dot’s Northwoods cabin where four women tell everyone they’re going on a trip for book club. However, after the third case of wine comes through the door, it becomes clear there will be more stewing than reviewing. As bottles tip up, secrets spill out and men sneak in. (Adult content: not recommended for children.) Tickets are available for $10, either online through the Wisconsin Heights Players Facebook event page, Eventbrite, or at the door. Beer, Wine, Soda & Water will be available for purchase at concessions. Please support local theater. Left to right, on the couch is Taran Lancaster and Cathy Campbell, and behind the couch is Aniela Haas, Lydan Haas, Jodie Szudy, Andy Szudy, and Eric Ripp. Missing from the photo: Nick Roberson.
