Rookies’ wiffle ball field is now “John F Wick Field,” named after the business owner and community philanthropist known so well around the area. On Wednesday, October 30, 2020, Wick Buildings entered into a partnership with Rookies to honor John Wick’s lifetime of community involvement and contributions. Attending were John himself (age 94), many of John’s children and family members, Steve Schmitt (Rookies Owner) and Dave Boyer (Rookies General Manager) and members of Wick Buildings management team.
“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Rookies and honor John F. Wick,” said Allan Breidenbach, President of Wick Buildings, Inc. Breidenbach added, “Since his founding of Wick Buildings in Mazomanie in 1954, John has been a fixture in the Mazomanie community and it is exciting to know that people will see his name for years to come.”
Schmitt took over the Rookies in 1998 and made it a destination location along with his famous Shoe Box store in Black Earth. In addition, Schmitt owns the Madison Mallards baseball team along with several other clubs in the Northwoods League, a summer league for elite college baseball players.
Wick Buildings has been in continuous operation since 1954, with more than 75,000 buildings completed.
