Allison Hager, American Honey Princess, visits Merrimac Community School

Students at Sauk Prairie School District’s school in Merrimac, WI got a sweet treat on Halloween when they met and heard from Allison Hager, the American Honey Princess for 2023. Hager, spokesperson with the American Honey Queen Program, visited the area on a trip through the region.

New names go up in Veterans Park in Black Earth

American Legion Post 313, Black Earth, added 22 new names to the Honor Wall at Veterans Park in Black Earth. There was an official dedication on Saturday, November 11,at 11:11 a.m.

Group hikes Vermont Lutheran Church’s new trails

A group of about 35 women joined Gaila Olsen recently for a hike on some of the new trails open at Vermont Lutheran Church’s property, the Legacy Prairie and Woodland which is now open to the public. Afterwards, the hikers had a potluck in a newly constructed outbuilding called “The Gathering Place.”

Veterans Day honors in Sauk Prairie


Sauk Prairie Veterans of Foreign Wars Lachmund-Cramer Post 7694 and Sauk City American Legion Kuoni-Reuter Post 167 held a Veterans Day ceremony Saturday morning at the Memorial in Sauk City in front of Riverfront Park. At 11:00 a.m. there was an observance of a“moment of silence to commemorate the time that ended the hostilities of World War I, then called the Great War. The seven members of the Honor Guard fired in unison a repetition of three rounds of blank cartridges symbolizing a 21 gun military rites salute. Annie Heathcote finishes 3rd in nation in Ms. Wheelchair America competition

Mazomanie’s Annie Heathcote, Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin 2023, finished 3rd in the nation at the Ms. Wheelchair America Competition in early September. Finishing as the second runner up, Heathcote also won the Best Speech Award. Her year-long message of “Caring is Caregiving” resonated loud and clear with the crowd.
