Resident starts, closes. petition to oust man accused of sexually assaulting six-year-old

A Black Earth resident created a petition calling for Curtis O’Brien, charged with sexually assaulting a six-year-old, to be relocated to an area “not near our schools or parks.” O’Brien is, per court order, staying with his father at his residence on Center Street, across from Black Earth Elementary School.

Sauk COVID-19 cases nearly double in July

Sauk County Public Health (SCPH) announced an alarming rise in new cases of COVID-19 in Sauk County through the first 13 days of July. From July 1-13, there have been 75 new cases of COVID-19 in Sauk County, for a total of 182 cases.

Man accused of sexually assaulting six-year-old girl out on bond, living in Black Earth

A Dane County man charged with sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl is now out on bail and living with his father in a house on Center Street, across from Black Earth Elementary School. Curtis O’Brien, 25, allegedly assaulted the girl over the course of two years, starting in 2012. O’Brien first appeared in court in 2018.

Sauk Prairie School District Superintendent delays release of public documents

The Sauk Prairie School District is delaying the release of additional public documents, just a few weeks after refusing to release its Continuity of Organizational Operations plan to the Star News. The Star News is asking for electronic copies of the same documents received by the board members for each meeting.

Recently released data from Sauk County Public Health provides a local view of COVID-19 cases, with positive results broken down by zip code. 18 percent of Sauk County COVID-19 cases have occurred in Sauk Prairie.
