Election results made official in Sauk County races

The election has officially wrapped up for this spring as the Sauk County Clerk’s Office made the results official last week.

New Supreme Court judge Karofsky has local connection

Jill Karofsky enjoyed growing up in Middleton, so much so she says she mentioned it in all of her stump speeches while she was running for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. A spot she won over Daniel Kelly, the incumbent, who was appointed by former Gov. Scott Walker in 2016.

Correction: Mazomanie winners

In last week’s Star News election coverage, Mazomanie incumbent Ray Schlamp was listed as earning the third most votes and losing his seat as a trustee. The vote total was correct, however there were three seats up for election in the village of Mazomanie. Schlamp retained his seat.

The Star News regrets the error.

‘Sauk Prairie Cares’ supports local COVID-19 frontline workers


On Monday 60 meals were delivered to Sauk Prairie Hospital. The emergency department, medical imaging department, labs, and housekeeping received meals.

Sauk Prairie Cares is dedicated to all the brave frontline workers in the Sauk Prairie community, including healthcare workers, police and firemen, EMTs, nursing home caregivers, and many more.

When Michele Doolan moved to Dane County’s rural 28th District, she says it was “like finding a unicorn.” 

“I found this pocket of progressives who kind of turned their backs on Madison as being too hard to please,” she says. 

Voter turnout tops 60%, only 22% vote in person

Twenty percent of area voters voted by absentee in April’s primary, according to data provided by clerks. This is on par with the State average, which was just over 18 percent. There were still a good number of voters at the polls.

Residents approved the Sauk Prairie School District’s $65 million referendum, and Sauk City, Mazomanie, and Black Earth will see new board members as the controversial April election concluded Monday night.
