Heights boys drop a pair

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team dropped a pair of games last week.

River Valley upended the host Vanguards, 58-49, on Dec. 19. Heights then went on the road and dropped a 54-33 decision to Deerfield on Dec. 22.

The Vanguards are now 3-4 overall this season.

Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team had a terrific week.

The visiting Eagles defeated Richland Center, 69-33, on Dec. 19. Sauk Prairie then toppled host Baraboo, 63-57, last Friday.

The Eagles are now 5-3 overall and sit in third place in the Badger Small Conference at 3-2.

Eagles’ swimmers cruise past Baraboo

The Sauk Prairie-Wisconsin Heights boys swimmers cruised past Baraboo, 113-52, on Dec. 12.

The Eagles won all three relays and four individual races.

Hockey Eagles win a pair

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team — which includes Barneveld, Mount Horeb, River Valley and Wisconsin Heights — won a pair of games last week.

The Eagles defeated Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells, 4-2, on Dec. 12. Sauk Prairie then edged the Aquinas Avalanche, 3-2, on Dec. 15.

Sauk Prairie gymnasts sneak past Watertown

Sauk Prairie’s girls gymnastics team edged Watertown, 130.450-125.875, on Dec. 12.

“We had a couple hiccups on bars to start the night, but vault and floor were significantly better after that,” Eagles coach Justine Anderson said.

Eagles’ wrestlers 23rd at Fondy Invite

Sauk Prairie’s wrestling team finished in 23rd place out of 25 teams at the Fond du Lac Invite last Saturday.

Hartford won the team title with 203.5 points, while Lodi (199.0), Hortonville (181.0), Bay Port (143.5) and Kewaskum  (118.5) rounded out the top five.

Mount Horeb finished with 98.0 points.

Breunig earns all-state honors

Sauk Prairie senior punter Connor Breunig was named the first team punter on the Associated Press All-State football team.

Breunig averaged a sterling 42.7 yards per punt, including a 73-yarder. He placed 20 punts inside the 20-yard line and had just one touchback. He was also 17 of 23 on PAT attempts.

Eagles win one, lose one

It was an up and down week for Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team.

The visiting Eagles downed Portage, 49-32, on Dec. 12. Host Sauk Prairie then dropped a 91-74 decision to Watertown on Dec. 15.

The Eagles are now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Badger Small Conference.

Two games into the season, Sauk Prairie girls basketball coach Jacob Breunig gathered his Eagles.

After a pair of tough losses, there were things Breunig didn’t like.

“I talked to the girls about needing to trust each other more,” he said.

It’s clear that is happening now.

Heights boys are heating up

It was quite the week for Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team.

The Vanguards rolled past St. Ambrose Academy, 60-42, on Dec. 11. Heights then toppled Boscobel, 63-52, on Dec. 14.

The Vanguards improved to 3-2 on the young season.
