Eagles’ track teams shine in opener

Sauk Prairie’s track and field teams both opened the season with second place finishes at the Baraboo Relays on April 27.

Baraboo won the boys’ race with 63 points, followed by Sauk Prairie (56), Reedsburg (49) and Wisconsin Dells (23).

Sauk Prairie’s baseball team storms from gates

Tyler Uselman and Sauk Prairie’s baseball team are off to a terrific 3-0 start.

They’re young.

They’re inexperienced.

But if the first week of the baseball season taught us anything, it’s that Sauk Prairie sure can play.

The Eagles — with a junior dominant roster — won their first three games.

Eagles’ golfers hanging tough

Sauk Prairie’s boys golfers had an extremely busy — and at times highly-successful — week.

The Eagles had two teams compete at the nine-team Sauk Prairie Invite on April 27 and finished third and fourth.

Heights wins soccer title

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer team will be receiving a Capitol Conference trophy after all.

Ready to roll

Shane Been admits there are far more questions than answers.

There will be new faces up and down the lineup. There will be plenty of rust to kick off.

But after spring sports were canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Been and Sauk Prairie’s girls softball team were thrilled to get their new season started last week.

Eagles’ soccer team has high hopes

Sauk Prairie junior forward Katelyn Fishnick led the state with 45 goals in 2019.

When Drew Kornisch passed out uniforms to his girls soccer team at Sauk Prairie recently, he probably wanted to hand out name tags, as well.

That’s what happens when you haven’t played a game in two years.

Wisconsin Heights soccer splits a pair

Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld’s boys soccer team split a pair of games last week.

The Vanguards defeated Cambridge, 6-1, on April 20. Heights/Barneveld then dropped a 1-0 decision to Sugar River on April 22 in a game that determined the Southern Capitol Conference title.

Heights XC runners shine

The postseason is almost here for the alternate-fall cross country runners.

And Wisconsin Heights’ small — but gifted — contingent of runners appears to be peaking.

Sauk Prairie boys golf team returned just one player from the 2019 team. And the Eagles’ varsity lineup consists primarily of players who were on the JV team two years ago.

That’s why Sauk Prairie coach Shane Frey believes his team will make monumental gains this season.

Wisconsin Heights keeps rolling

Trevor Steiner loves fast starts.

Wisconsin Heights’ football coach says his team, “tries to be the race horse that jumps into the lead.”

Last Friday, the Vanguards looked like Secretariat and Seattle Slew rolled into one.
