Heights falls to Belmont

Connor Herrling isn’t big on moral victories.

But Wisconsin Heights’ football coach and his Vanguards took several positives from their 16-12 loss to Belmont last Friday.

Belmont, which reach the state championship game last season, improved to 5-2. Heights had its two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 2-4.

But Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team has conquered most challenges that have come its way this season.

Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming team edged McFarland, 90-80, on Oct. 3

The Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ava Flanagan, Kate Himebauch, Emerson Drew and Kaylee Oleson finished first, while the foursome of Ava Jorgenson, Claire Handschke, Ava Handschke and Jade Reeves was third.

Sauk Prairie’s girls tennis team saw its season end at the WIAA Division 1 Waunakee Subsectional on Oct. 2.

The Eagles lost all seven of their first round matches and weren’t able to advance anyone to sectionals.

Eagles’ girls cross country team shines at Rapids Invite

Sauk Prairie’s girls cross country team continues to get better and keeps shining at every meet they attend.

The Eagles tied for second at the 15-team Wisconsin Rapids Invite last Saturday. Stevens Point won the event with just 58 points, while the Eagles and Monona Grove tied for second with 101 points.

Sauk Prairie spikers second at league tourney

The postseason is just around the corner.

And Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team is beginning to resemble the outfit that came within one match of winning a state title last season.

“Sauk Prairie is starting to play like the team that finished second in Division 2 last season,” Mount Horeb coach Kurt Owen said of the Eagles.

Sauk Prairie stays alive

Win — or pray for help.

Sauk Prairie’s football team rolled past host Fort Atkinson, 35-14, in a Badger Small Conference game last Friday. The Eagles improved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the Badger Small Conference.

Now, it’s win or else. The Eagles host DeForest Friday at 7 p.m. and they control their own destiny.

Eagles’ girls XC team third at Platteville Invite

Sauk Prairie’s rising girls cross country team had a terrific performance at the Platteville Invitational last Saturday.

Dodgeville/Mineral Point won the 23-team event with 72 points. The Eagles finished in third place with 148 points.

Eagles’ spikers down Mount Horeb

It was Gracyn Meyer’s birthday on Sept. 26.

And the Sauk Prairie girls volleyball standout celebrated in style, powering the Eagles past  Mount Horeb, 25-19, 25-14, 25-16.

Meyer finished with 11 kills and three blocks to lead Sauk Prairie.
