There was no rust.

No struggles after an 11-day layoff.

Instead, Sauk Prairie’s girls soccer team was sharp from start to finish and routed Baraboo, 9-0, in a WIAA Division 2 regional final Saturday.

Six weeks ago, any talk of a regional championship would have been downright laughable.

All Sauk Prairie’s baseball team wanted to do back then was win a single game.

But after an 0-8 start, something magical has gone on for these Eagles. There were winning streaks of three games, then four and now five.

Eagles shine at sectionals

Sauk Prairie’s track teams competed at the Sauk Prairie Sectional on May 25, sending several athletes to state and having others fall narrowly short.

Clockwise from top, Taylor Snyder was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles and fell short of state.

Sauk Prairie Twins race to 3-0 start

The Sauk Prairie Twins are off to a 3-0 start in Home Talent League action.

The Twins defeated Black Earth, 9-5, on May 21. Sauk Prairie toppled Mazomanie, 6-5, last Saturday and routed Richland Center, 14-1, on Sunday.

Better days ahead?

Emily Van Riper and Wisconsin Heights’ girls softball team dropped a 10-0 decision to Cuba City in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal on May 23. The Vanguards finished the season 9-15. “Overall, this predominately young team came a long way this year as our last five games before the season ender we won or took to extra innings,” Heights manager Scott Wood said. “Having 11 freshmen on the team that took half the starting roster looks like there could be some good softball in the future, but it all depends on how many of them commit themselves to getting stronger and better before next season. As always, we hope for the best.” Photo by Bethany Wood.
