Sauk Prairie’s girls tennis team did everything it could to beat the heat.

Beating Oregon was an even tougher tack.

The Eagles moved their meet with the host Panthers to the morning of Aug. 22 due to a heat advisory. While that helped the players a bit, Oregon still had too much firepower and edged Sauk Prairie, 5-2.

Off and running

Sauk Prairie’s cross country teams had a terrific start to their 2023 season last Saturday.

The Eagles’ girls finished fifth among 13 teams at the West Bend West Invite, while the boys were eighth out of 14 teams.

Heights edged by Oakfield

Wisconsin Heights’ football team left Oakfield broken hearted last Friday.

By the looks of it, the Vanguards may not have that feeling very often this season.

In its 2023 season-opener, Heights took perennial power Oakfield to the wire, before succumbing, 22-20, in an epic battle.

Eagles’ pick up where they left off

Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team opened the season by winning the Edgerton Invite.

When you saw them last, Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team were steamrolling their way to the finest season in school history — finishing second at last year’s WIAA Division 2 state tournament.

Last weekend, the Eagles picked up right where they left off.

Eagles roll over Reedsburg

Junior quarterback Landon Schultz and junior wide receiver Boden Frosch have been playing toss and catch since they began playing football together in fourth grade.

That connection paid dividends for the Sauk Prairie Eagles last Friday night.

Swimmers fare well at DeForest

Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming team competed at the DeForest Invite last Saturday.

The Eagles finished in third place in the Blue Division, and sixth in both the Red and White divisions. Blue is generally the most competitive division, followed by Red, and then White.

Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s top-three finishers:

Sauk Prairie edged Sun Prairie West, 4-3, and rolled past Stoughton, 6-1. The Eagles then fell to host DeForest, 5-2.

Andy Sherman doesn’t like to talk about conference titles or sectional championships in August.

No, Sauk Prairie’s boys and girls cross country coach likes to discuss the things he can influence.
