Season ends for Heights’ XC teams

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys cross country team finished in 12th place at the 16-team WIAA Division 2 Deerfield/Cambridge Sectional last Saturday. The Vanguards’ girls were 14th out of 16 teams.

Pointers KO Heights spikers

They made strides throughout the year.

And with a terrific nucleus expected back in 2025, Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team could make even greater gains next season.

Two down, two to go

Otis Andres (11) and Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team won a WIAA Division 2 regional last weekend and are now just two steps away from a state tournament berth. The second-seeded Eagles defeated seventh-seeded Reedsburg, 6-0, in a regional semifinal on Oct. 22. Sauk Prairie then edged third-seeded Baraboo, 3-2, in a regional final last Saturday. The Eagles now travel to top-seeded DeForest for a sectional semifinal Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner of that game meets either third-seeded Marshfield or fourth-seeded River Falls in a sectional final Saturday at 7 p.m. in DeForest. Eagles’ swimmers roll

Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming and diving team defeated Portage/Poynette, 97-56, in its final Badger Small Conference dual meet of the season.

The Eagles ended their dual meet season with an overall record of 3-6 and a Badger Small Conference record of 3-5.

Season ends for Eagles’ runners

Andy Sherman was pulled in two different directions.

And that made life trickier than usual for Sauk Prairie’s cross country coach last weekend.

The Eagles’ teams competed in two different divisions — and in two different sectionals — for the first time in school history.

Spartans stun Eagles’ spikers

In 1785 Robert Burns wrote “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

Today, that saying still holds true.

Just ask Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team.

Eagles run into buzzsaw

MOUNT HOREB —Heralded with a pep rally at school, memorialized with sweatshirts bearing the milestone achievement, and surrounded by a large traveling party of fans, the Sauk Prairie football team walked onto the field Friday ready to make its mark in its first WIAA playoff game since 2019.

Heights’ Caminiti wins conference crown

Kirk Caminiti won the Capitol South Conference cross country championship last Saturday and almost carried his Vanguards team to a title, as well.

Caminiti won the individual championship, completing the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 24.3 seconds. That was 27 seconds faster than runner-up Ayden Wilkins of New Glarus/Monticello.

They’ve gotten better every game, every week.

And now, they hope to make some postseason noise.

Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team finished the regular season with a 5-0 dismantling of Mount Horeb and head to the playoffs with some momentum.
